Viral Hit: Handsome Men’s Club
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under General Commentary
This video was a segment on the Jimmy Kimmel Show just after the Oscars aired and has steadily gone viral ever since, now with close to 800.000 views since Monday and on the number 3 spot of the viral video chart.
The cast he put together for the short is unbelievable and it works really well. Just to give you a few examples, you’ll see Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Matthew Mcconaughey, Josh Hartnett, Rob Lowe, Ted Danson and John Krasinski.
The ridicule, the lines, even the wardrobe, all help make this a great and very consistent segment, and a specially a hilarious one.

Going viral: The New Dork (Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys Spoof)
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under Viral Campaigns
This video was uploaded to Youtube yesterday afternoon, not even 24 hours from now. And it’s already going viral, the 15th most shared video and with 90.000 views.
It’s a spoof of the Jay-Z song feature Alicia Keys by Wooshii member Seedwell aka Pantless Knights, but it’s more than just a spoof. It’s a hymn for entrepreneurship (it’s other title is The Entrepeneur State of Mind) and close to heart to many tech blog readers – which they mention, and which have posted the video already. Being this blogs big viral seeders with thousands of readers, the video started going viral really soon and fast.
Also, it was made for Grasshoper.com, which is a great strategy since the video will be seen by thousands, millions even, and their site will be branded across all those views. If you remember, there was another great video, but of a different nature, that went viral and also had the Grasshoper.com name attached to it (check it after the break).
For now, see the New Dork:

Going viral: the first Ipad commercial
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under Viral Campaigns
During yesterday’s Oscars telecast aired the first Ipad commercial. And you know what that means, this video is bound to become viral really soon.
It already is to some extent, becoming the 24th most shared video worldwide overnight, but it sure will go much higher.
It’s nothing many people having seen before, but now it’s being communicated to the masses who don’t follow tech blogs, in a time where the selling date was setled at 3rd of April in the US and late April in other select countries.
Right now it has close to 4.000 views but expect it to have a huge view count in the coming days.

The first one is by Wooshii members Whirled Creative, who’ve done several viral videos in the past, and now compiled a few oscar speeches into a video that has had 40.000 views in 4 days.

Viral animation: Lego – The Force Unleashed
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under General Commentary
Going viral since yesterday, this is one of those videos that one is amazed at the effort put into it.
Done by Youtube user xxxfancypantsxxx for an animation challenge for a bricksinmotion.com, the video already got 265.000 views in 5 days and it’s climbing on the top viral video chart (currently at the 6th spot of the most shared videos in the past 24 hours).
And it truly deserves it, the quality of animation and filmmaking skills are really good. Now only if this was made into a The Force Unleashed feature film!

Going viral: Pedigree Dogs
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under General Commentary
Going viral since yesterday (but on Youtube for 10 days) is a video from dog food brand Pedigree, shot in slow motio at 1000 framers per second!
It’s simple, effective, and beautifully shot. And people love animal videos, particularly dogs and cats, so no wonder it’s going viral as cool as this video this.
And now we’ve seen virals for pretty much everything, even for dog food!

Viral hit: OK Go – This Too Shall Pass [UPDATE]
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under General Commentary
UPDATE: it’s now been only 30 minutes since this post was published and the views have jumped to 770.000 views.
- original post follows -
OK Go are a band that got it’s first shot at stardom with a viral video. The treadmill video, remember that? It got attention to their music, and soon they were given many opportunities that probably wouldn’t have otherwise, like for example performing the video live at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Now, true to their nature, they got a new music video that had got viral all over it and it truly came out to be exactly that: viral. And managed to do it in a single day!
A huge Rube Goldberg machine, it’s perfectly executed, fun, and really worth watching. Maybe because of that it’s the most shared video in the past 24 hours (getting ahead of the Gorillaz Stylo video), with almost 600.000 views. In a single day!

Viral prediction: Gorillaz new video (Stylo)
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under Viral Campaigns, viral prediction
Gorillaz are have turned into a huge phenomenon since they band got conceived in 1998.
Now they are coming out with a new album in a few days time – Plastic Beach – and the marketing campaign they launched is really smart and getting a lot of viewer attention.
First off, they’ve been releasing small, bite-sized clips of teasers for several tracks of the album on Youtube. See an example for yourself:
This one is the most seen of them (and actually the longest!), with 160.000 views in less than a month. But if you put together all the teasers, they sure would ammount for more than 1 million views combined.
This leaves the fans wanting for more and wanting the new album even more than before.
More: they released a trailer – a trailer! – for their first music video for the album! Probably wasn’t the first time a band did this, but in this case worked so well, doing just what it was meant to do: tease fans.
You can also listen to the full album online now, on the Guardian page, here.
And today, the full music video was released. And expect this to go viral in the next few days. One thing though: I can’t understand why EMI would want to block out some countries from seeing it on Youtube for example. It’s probably because of complicated rights management and piracy, yes, but the more people see it (everywhere) the more they’ll be likely to buy the new album or merchandise from the band, go to concerts etc.

Auto-tune is viral again
Posted by Ricardo | Filed under General Commentary
Going viral these past days and climbing steadily the top viral charts is another auto-tuned video with auto-tuned scientists. It’s the fifth installment in the Symphony of Science music video series by John Boswel (melodysheep on Youtube).
Clever editing and remixing, it’s no surprise it already has got 240.000 views in just 4 days. And it shows auto-tune is still strong, although we haven’t seen to many of these going viral in a long time.
