Musical Viral: Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir – ‘Lux Aurumque’

When you mix 185 voices, 243 different tracks, with people from 12 countries, from Youtube submissions, you can see the result getting pretty messy!

Not on this video. It is done perfectly and it mixes together beautifuly.

This is sort of a crowdsourcing for a Choir: a call was made by Eric Whitacre (the composer and conductor) and Scott Haines (the producer and manager), and those who answered and could do what was asked, got to record a part. Plus, there was apparently an incentive: 6 scholarships were awarded, so this made people want to try it out.

This was actually not the first video of this kind by Eric Whitacre and Scott Haines. They had a similar one 8 months ago, which got 62.000 views.

Goes to show this kind of collaboration can be achieved in such an unorthodox way, and result in a great video.

Check it out, after the break:

It got 70.000 views in 2 days.
